Deposit and Return Scheme

Cocacola shift from green to clear plastic bottles for its Sprite drink brand is a good move. The green bottle was problematic to recycle and often ended up polluting the environment. The sure way to effectively promote recycling is really adopting bottle deposit and return schemes (DRS). Without bottle deposit & return schemes only a small percentage of plastic bottles will be recycled, the rest going to the landfill, that’s not what we want. We need all plastic bottles recycled. I hope Cocacola and other beverage companies will listen and embrace DRS. This will come along way at reducing plastic waste ending up and polluting the environment. Even with Extended producer responsibility at play, DRS would be an efficient way to manage plastic bottles.
