Global Plastics Treaty
In 1971, Ed Carpenter, a Marine biologist wrote in the journal Science ‘’Increasing production of plastics, combined with waste disposal practices, will undoubtedly lead to increases in the concentration of these particles’’ He had documented 3,500 pieces and 290 grams per square km of plastic in Sargasso Sea, a region of Atlantic Ocean. Now, in 2024, the world is finally negotiating a #plasticstreaty yet some countries and corporations are still dragging the process behind as they place profits before people and the planet.
If we are ever going to make a progress at ending plastic pollution, the global #PlasticsTreaty must include limits on plastic production . If the world continues to produce plastic at current rate, plastic pollution crisis will keep increasing. A treaty that will not place caps on production will be meaningless!
