PICTURES: Lake Baringo rising water levels; Impact of Climate Change

Climate change has resulted to extreme weather conditions that have triggered an estimated 30 million displacements all over the world with the global south being the hardest hit. Experts are warning that heating above 1.5 degrees Celsius will be catastrophic and are calling for rapid global commitments to tame global warming tide. In 2020, it was reported that Lake Baringo had expanded by 60 percent since 2013 and now covers an area of 270 square kilometers .

The unprecedent rise has caused destruction of great magnitude to homes, livelihoods, industry and infrastructure. There are relentless global calls by climate activists and different stakeholders to support most vulnerable communities by equipping them with the necessary tools, skills and knowledge to be in a better place to adapt and mitigate on the impacts of climate change.
